# How HabitRix calculates streaks

> A HabitRix streak counts consecutive successful periods: days for a daily goal, weeks for a weekly goal, and months for a monthly goal. A period is successful when you reach its goal. Today, this week and this month stay open until they end, so you always have time to check in. To plan rest days, use a weekly goal, for example 5 times per week.

## How does HabitRix count a streak?

A HabitRix streak counts the successful periods in a row. The type of period depends on the goal that you set for the habit.

| Goal type | One period | The period is successful when… |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | 1 day | You reach the check-ins for that day, for example 8 of 8 glasses |
| Weekly | 1 week | You check in on the set number of days that week, for example 3 days |
| Monthly | 1 calendar month | You check in on the set number of days that month |

For weekly and monthly goals, each day counts one time. For more about goal types, see [Daily, weekly and monthly goals](/help/habit-goals-daily-weekly-monthly/).

## When does the current period count?

The current period stays open until it ends. For example, on a Tuesday morning your daily streak still includes Monday, and you have all of Tuesday to check in. A weekly streak waits until the week ends, and a monthly streak waits until the month ends.

When a period ends without reaching its goal, the next successful period starts a new streak at 1.

## How do I add a check-in that I forgot?

To add a forgotten check-in, mark the past day in the habit's calendar. The streak counts that day.

1. Open the habit.
2. Open its calendar.
3. Tap the past day to mark it as done.

## How do I plan rest days?

To plan rest days, use a weekly goal. For example, set “Workout” to 5 times per week. Any 5 days in the week keep the streak going, so 2 rest days fit in every week. Set this in the habit's goal setting. See [Daily, weekly and monthly goals](/help/habit-goals-daily-weekly-monthly/).

## When does a week start?

The first day of the week works like this on each phone:

- **On Android:** Weekly streaks run from Monday to Sunday. The **Week Starts On** setting in **Settings > General** sets the first day in the grids and calendars.
- **On iPhone:** The **Week Starts On** setting in **Settings** sets where every week begins. This includes the activity grid, the calendar, weekly goals and streaks.

## Where do I see my streak?

Your streak shows on the habit card with a flame icon.

- **On Android:** The flame number on the habit card and on the widget shows the longest run of successful periods for the habit. The **Statistics** screen (HabitRix Pro) shows **Current Streak** and **Best Streak**. To show or hide the flame, use **Show Streak Count** in **Settings > General**.
- **On iPhone:** The habit card shows your current streak. HabitRix also celebrates milestones, such as 7, 30, 100 and 365 days.

## How do streaks work in a room?

A room has one simple check-in per day: tap to mark today as done. Each member checks in for themselves, for today.

- **On iPhone:** Each member has a streak in the group. It counts the days in a row up to today. Check in today to show your full streak in the group. The leaderboard can rank members by **Streak**, **Total** or **Today**.
- **On Android:** The room shows how many days each member checked in. The leaderboard ranks members by days done, with a top-3 podium.

## FAQ

### How do I plan rest days without losing my HabitRix streak?

Use a weekly goal in HabitRix. For example, set a workout habit to 5 times per week. Any 5 days in the week keep the streak going, so 2 rest days fit in every week.

### When does a HabitRix streak start again from 1?

A HabitRix streak starts again from 1 after a period ends without reaching its goal. For a daily habit with several check-ins per day, a day counts when all check-ins for that day are done. For a weekly or monthly goal, the week or month counts when it reaches the set number of days.

### How do I add a check-in that I forgot in HabitRix?

Open the habit's calendar in HabitRix and tap the past day to mark it as done. The streak then counts that day. Room check-ins are for today, so check in to your rooms each day.

### How do streaks work in a HabitRix room?

On iPhone, each member has a streak in the group, and the leaderboard can rank members by streak. On Android, the room shows how many days each member checked in, and the leaderboard ranks members by days done.
